Freezing up top warm as toast below

After a freezing cold day at Sato Land we ducked underground to the stroes to eat ice cream - it was wonderfully heated under the snow. We dumped our ski wear in the coin lockers and pretended that we were back on the Gold Coast.

Max and the Wild Things

Max and the Wild Things is available in Japanese for kids too! The translation is lovely and involves repetition which is great for young learners. There is also plenty of scope for dramatisation in the class to keep the little ones moving.

Ari to Suika The Ant and the Watermelon

This is a fantastic book about ants finding watermelon left over in the park. They try to move it back to their nest as a team but it is too heavy. How could they problem solve and sort this challenge? They decided to eat the watermelon first and they move the shell. It worked! The kids really enjoyed this story. Simple story line - lovely pictures.

Story Time Teaching Japanese Babies and Kids

Have you thought about incorporating The Hungry Caterpillar into your classes. This favourite story has been translated into Japanese and is a great choice for 4-5 year old language classes.

You can get the kids making the food that the caterpillar ate. Or you could make the caterpillars themselves. You can even dramatise the story and the repetition of the words 'peko peko' are a lot of fun.
